After Mass I said farewell and dived straight in to the nearest restaurant for an omelet breakfast and coffee – I guess the previous day’s effort made me extra hungry!
Today started off feeling like a rest day, and I made frequent stops to admire the views of the surrounding hills covered in sweet clover. However, I spoke too soon, and as the sun was setting it became a race to find a suitable campsite. The one I was aiming for no longer existed and so had to head for the next one down the road. Beaver Dam Recreation Area was the nearest, but the amenities were basic (no showers) and it was a struggle to get any water out of the taps. I guess they only open it up at certain times of the year – it looked like I had arrived on an off season.
The noise of mosquitoes filled the air as I lay there trying to go to sleep. Good thing I had beef jerky and Uncle Ben’s rice for dinner, I find it difficult to sleep without a shower, but I think that helped, good old Uncle Ben!
