The Flight

12 May 2008 by Dominic

After a hectic drive to Heathrow, I managed board the plane by the skin of my teeth – thanks D for giving me a lift, hope the traffic wasn’t as bad on the way back.

The flight was straight forward; watched two movies and a documentary, ate a chicken and mushroom sauce meal – it was funny to see a character I did for Gü on the side of chocolate moose for afters!

After nine hours the plane touched down on a rather wet Washington Dulles runway, and after waiting for over an hour to sort out the visa I collected my luggage. To my surprise everything was untouched, even the huge cardboard box containing my bike withstood the dreaded baggage handlers.

Next was figuring out how to get to the campsite. I had a wander around to check out my options, and in the end was assured that the Taxi Shuttle would be able to take me there. On board were two Germans and a local American, who seemed to know how to get to Burke Lake Park better than the GPS-enabled driver.

On arrival I found that I was in the wrong place, but a kind park keeper gave me a lift down to the lake, where I pitched my tent.
